Premium Lens Implant Choices with Cataract Surgery

For years, patients who underwent cataract surgery had to wear glasses or contact lenses afterwards to see clearly. Newly developed intraocular lenses, or IOLs, have overcome this problem, allowing patients to see better than ever before -- without the help of corrective eyewear. Kay & Tabas Ophthalmology offers a selection of premium IOLs for patients who are undergoing cataract surgery with lens replacement.

In addition to standard intraocular lenses, state-of-the-art IOL options include:

ReSTOR®

Flexible IOLs have been used for years to help patients enjoy clear vision after cataract surgery. The advanced ReSTOR® lens improves upon ordinary IOLs by providing a full range of focusing distances. A series of 12 gradual "step heights" create seamless focusing ability from near to far, while the edge of the IOL enhances distance vision. A feature called apodization also helps the eye distribute light evenly in different lighting conditions. Best of all, up to 80% of patients who use the ReSTOR® lens don't need glasses or contact lenses after surgery.

Crystalens®

The crystalens® IOL was modeled after the natural lens in the eye. Unlike rigid lenses, the crystalens® is made with flexible silicone and has hinges on each side that allow it to move with the eye muscle, flexing and accommodating seamlessly so you can focus on the objects around you at any distance. In other words, it dynamically adjusts to your visual needs.

Crystalens® is:

  • The first and only FDA-approved accommodating intraocular lens
  • The only lens that uses the natural focusing ability of the eye
  • The only lens that provides a single focal point throughout a continuous range of vision from far to near, and everything in between

ReZoom™

The ReZoom™ multifocal IOL helps patients focus clearly on objects at a range of distances and in varied light conditions, so they can be free of glasses or contact lenses after cataract surgery. The ReZoom lens features five spherical segments with smooth transitions in between so the eyes focus seamlessly from one distance to the next. The center of the lens is optimized for bright light and distance vision, while the fourth zone supports near-vision in a variety of light conditions, and the outermost zone accommodates for low-light distance vision (such as when driving at night). The ReZoom is also specially designed to reduce internal reflections and minimize glare.

Acrysof Toric

Toric IOLs are specially designed for patients with astigmatism. Traditionally, surgical correction of astigmatism required making a series of small incisions (called LRIs) around the cornea to make it more spherical instead of football-shaped. Implanting toric IOLs often improves vision due to astigmatism without the need for these extra incisions, and also allows patients to enjoy a faster, more comfortable recovery.
