One of the greatest moments in... life.
Frank Marandino
Rittenhouse Hotel

"I must confess that I have been enjoying my new gift of sight and that, coupled with the holiday season kept this man rather occupied. But I want you to know that not a day has passed since my operation that I haven't thought of you. It is with that utmost respect and admiration that as I draft this that I thank you from the inner depth of my heart. This newly found freedom has probably been one of the most incredible things that has ever happened to me. Very quickly, I would like to share with you what happened to me the day after my surgery: I had awakened at 4:15 am (my usual rising time) to take my dog outside. It was a very clear sky with almost a full moon. As I waited for my beloved little cairn to do his business, I looked up into the sky and could see every single star so perfectly and clearly, and it was, without a doubt, one of the greatest moments in my life. Anybody may call it what they may like, but after more than thirty years of dependency on glasses and contacts I am liberated...

Anyway, you are a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful man and I shall never forget what you did for me. I am storming into 2006 with an incredibly new outlook on life and you are nearly fully responsible for it. At this time I also want to thank your professional and courteous staff, especially Derrick, who made this experience so nearly perfect. You can bet your bottom dollar that this Concierge will recommend your services to anyone who asks..."

Steve Hunter of the 76ers had Laser Correction by Dr. Michael Kay.

On Tuesday, May 9, Steve Hunter, the center for the Philadelphia 76ers underwent laser vision correction performed by Dr. Michael Kay. Steve was significantly near sighted and had been wearing contact lenses for years. However, the team schedules, late night flights and constantly changing time zones, made wearing lenses increasingly difficult.

He had been thinking of Laser vision correction for several years but had been told in the past he was not a good candidate for lasik. So Dr. Kay, performed a surface custom laser procedure. "Surface laser treatment was actually a safer procedure for Steve, since there is a lot of physical contact in his sport. We always worry about an athlete getting poked in the eye. With conventional lasik, we make a flap of tissue and perform the laser under the flap. If he were to get hit in the eye with a finger, there would be a danger for him dislodging the flap.

With a surface procedure where the laser procedure is performed on the surface of the eye, there is no flap to dislodge."

Steve is healing well and will be ready for the next season, hopefully adding points to his average with his new vision.

Dr. Kay and his partners, Dr. Janine Tabas and Dr. Dave Galiani are the ophthalmologists for the 76ers.
