A caring patient of ours is a dedicated volunteer for the Philadelphia Rat Rescue...yes Rat Rescue! This is a very interesting group of good-hearted volunteers who care for domestic rats that have lost their homes, been abused, or are ill.
Maria McAllister came to our practice after being diagnosed with very significant cataracts. She was legally blind without glasses at her first visit. After successful laser-assisted cataract surgery by Dr Janine Tabas, she is seeing wonderfully without glasses! The course of her care brought her close with her surgeon. When this black hooded rat came to the Philly Rat Rescue, he instantly reminded Mrs McAllister of Dr Tabas, leading to the name Tobias! We are happy to hear that Tobias has recently been adopted and is now in a caring home.
The Philly Rat Rescue also sponsors the Saint Francis Rat Sanctuary, caring for elderly, ill, or disabled rats. To see more about this unique volunteer organization, visit the website or facebook page.
We thank Maria McAllister for her permission to post this entry.
